The Republic of Suriname has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank toward the cost of the Foreign Investment and Export Promotion Program (FIEPP), project no. SU-L1056. This program is implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (the Executing Agency), through an established Program Executing Unit (PEU). The Executing Agency invites all suitable and qualified candidates to apply for the position of Individual Consultant to carry out a survey to identify local supplier opportunities among large Suriname based companies. Candidates will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out by the Inter-American Development Bank.
BASIC FUNCTION OF CONSULTANCY:
The objective of this consultancy is to conduct a survey among large domestic and international companies active in Suriname to identify opportunities to increase local content. The objective of this survey is to identify between 10 and 15 large companies operating in Suriname in specific sectors who might have opportunities to increase procurement of local goods and services and to document in detail these opportunities to enable the development of a supplier development program (not part of this exercise) that will help develop and upgrade the capacities of these companies to become suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Trade, or a related field.
• A postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
• At least 5 years of experience in working in one of the following areas: supply chain analysis, procurement, business development, or trade facilitation.
• Demonstrated experience conducting at least 3 surveys, market research, or supplier assessments in the past 36 months
• Experience working with multinational corporations, government agencies, or trade organizations an advantage
• Strong analytical and data collection skills.
• Expertise in local content development, supplier qualification, and trade linkages.
• Knowledge of procurement processes, supplier standards, and compliance requirements.
• Ability to engage with senior business leaders and procurement officers.
• Understanding of key economic sectors in Suriname, including agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, ICT, professional services, and renewable energy.
• Familiarity with challenges faced by local suppliers, especially women-owned businesses, in accessing corporate supply chains an advantage
• Excellent written and spoken English and Dutch (Sranan Tongo an advantage).
• Strong report writing and presentation skills.
• Established network with private sector companies, industry associations, and trade organizations in Suriname
