PRORITY SECTORS:

Tourism

Tourism is nowadays one of the most profitable businesses, being a key sector for most of the top economies in the world.

The Government of Suriname is aware of its importance but also of the need to respect and protect the environment. Therefore, taking advantage of its natural characteristics, the country is being promoted as a key destination for eco-tourism.

Suriname has a truly attractive environment relying on:

  • Green tropical jungles on the continent where bird watching or herping are unique and great experiences.
  • Massive rivers running through- and connecting the different regions, with exotic species of wildlife while also offering great fishing experiences.
  • Paramaribo, a city with an exceptional architecture that is product of a unique confluence of cultures.

The country is quite unknown as a tourist destination, which turns it into a jewel to discover between the thousands of crowded Caribbean territories. Also, the philosophy of focusing on sustainable tourism is an asset value for specific touristic segments who value rich biodiversity.
